Make sure that your swimming pool area is party-ready

May 21, 2024

Make a splash this summer by getting your swimming pool area party-ready ahead of the swim season. Whether you're happy with your pool and patio design or need an upgrade, Nicolock Paving Stones is here to help make sure that your swimming pool area is ready to go. Whether it's your first season with a new pool or if you're a seasoned veteran, we can help make sure everything is checked, set and ready to go before your guests arrive.

Prep the Pool

The first thing you'll need to do is clean and prep your pool. If you're just opening it for the first time in the season, you've got a little work to do, but it's important to make sure your pool is clean, safe and ready for guests to enjoy. Here are a few steps you can follow to prepare your pool:

  • Remove Debris: You may need to also vacuum your pool to remove any leaves, debris and insects that may have gotten in over the winter.
  • Check the Chemicals: Test the water using a pool test kit and adjust the pH, chlorine and alkalinity as needed. If your pool is cloudy or colored, it's a sure giveaway that the chemicals aren't right. Once the water is balanced, the pool will be clear.
  • Shock the Pool: If it's your first time opening the pool for the season, you'll probably need to shock it. Shocking the pool with chlorine helps eliminate any bacteria or algae that may have settled in over the winter.
  • Clean Your Pool Accessories: Clean all of the floats, toys and pool inflatables thoroughly while inspecting them to make sure they are still in good condition.
  • Prep the Pool Area

Once the pool is under control, it's time to make sure your patio is ready for partygoers. The goal is to create a clean, organized and welcoming space for your guests. Here are a few poolside considerations:

  • Secure Seating: Make sure you have ample seating options for your guests. Lounge chairs, Adirondack chairs and even standard patio chairs are all great options. Arrange your seating choices strategically to maximize comfort and convenience.
  • Set Up Some Shade: Your guests probably won't be hot when they're in the pool, but they may still want some relief from the sun and harmful UV rays. Shade structures near seating areas and over portions of the pool can help keep guests comfortable.
  • Light It Up: Nobody likes to swim blind. You can enhance the ambiance of your pool and improve safety if you're swimming at night by adding string lights, lanterns or solar stake lights. Lighting improves safety around the water and adds visual appeal.
  • Turn Up the Tunes: Set the mood for your pool party with a carefully crafted playlist full of Choose songs you like and a few of your guests will appreciate it too. You can even use camouflaged rock speakers to play music throughout the pool area without having speakers distracting the view.
  • Once your pool area is prepped and ready, you can send out invitations for your first pool party of the season. By preparing your pool area in advance, your party will be fun and stress-free. With a little bit of work and some planning, you can create a welcoming and safe environment for all your guests.
